I don’t know if the manufacture a 1911, but if they don’t produce them … I’m sure they import them. _________________ The Nonsense Stops! … when the Hammer Drops!

I ordered up this Caspian® firing pin while at the SS, it’s going in my RIA® project; as soon as it arrives.

I added a small section of skateboard-tape to the front strap of my RIA® Dirt Cup™ ... I think it came out looking pretty good!

Hey GM, hope you dont mind, I'm going to copy you and get some o' that stainless bling for mine I particularly like the stainless barrel bushing.
Question: what are you going to do about the beavertail? Are you going to to use a jig and sand down the frame, or buy a drop in? I ordered one from OLY and I actually hand filed the beavertail till it would fit without altering my frame cuz I didnt want to reblue afterwards. Mine will never look so pretty as yours cuz it gets hard use (doesnt live on the nightstand and sometimes gets dropped ) was wearing it in a holster when I rolled my ATV over on us. It seems there are places I cant go _________________ SHOOTER |

some history on my 2-Tone project … years ago (back in 1990 in fact) I was stationed in DFW, TX. for a year, and I bought a Springfield Armory USGI .45ACP at the Gun Show in Fort Worth, and ever since that time I have always wanted to do a 2-Tone 1911, but after returing back to WA. State, I traded off the 1911 for a Gen-I G19 NIB.
as for modifying the RIA frame to accommodate the installation of the ‘Beaver-tail’ style safety; I’ll not attempt it on my own, as I do not own/possess a Dremel® Tool nor do I have the needed knowledge of custom fitting the safety to the frame; and I really don’t want to install it by ‘trial and error’ either.
and yes a ‘Drop-In’ type beaver-tail safety, sure sounds like a much better alternative, especially for me.
Q: do ya got a web-link for a brush-satin finished stainless steel drop-in beavers-tail saftey? _________________ The Nonsense Stops! … when the Hammer Drops!

If you have 2 good files and a solid vice you can probably file the one you have to fit....fairly easy. Is yours a stainless? that will probably take a bit more work. It took me about an hour through trial and error. If I did another I'd use a digital caliper and scribe the safety where the filling would cease. _________________ SHOOTER |

Hey Globemaster,
I have the Wilson SS (#429) that Shooter linked to for a Colt frame that I don't want to modify.
I haven't installed it yet but it is a satin finish. You may have to do a little filing on the little tang that interfaces with the trigger bar. Wilson includes a little instruction drawing that helps. You just have to remove and install the beavertail a couple of times checking for fit and function to get it to work.

It looks like the (Brownells ) # 965-429-101 is the SS that fits the Gov model (5') like your RIA
I have the 965-429-111 that is also SS but fits the Commander (4.25") and the Officers models.
I haven't installed it yet but it looks like it should not need any cutting to fit on the frame. Unlike the one you so kindly sent to me awhile back that is more standard and needed the frame radiused.
I should slap this new beavertail on in the next couple of days so I can give you a short install report. |

you can get into one of these RIA® 1911-A1's for cheap; and then learn as you go; that's what I'm going here with my project; and the small parts are fairly inexpensive too … or you could go with the Taurus PT 1911-A1, that has all of the extras installed from the factory.

gotcha ... I may have to order (1) up, as I'm not ever going to challenge the fitted installation. _________________ The Nonsense Stops! … when the Hammer Drops!

Where could someone find those "reaper" grips. I think my Springfield needs them. _________________ Let he who has no sword, sell his cloak and buy one. |

IIRC, these are a Hogue® and I picked up this ‘Set’ at a Pawn Shop for $10 and I see some similar to them here on the Sportsmansguide >>> Hogue® Scrimshaw 1911 Grips, Grim Reaper
