|
|
Hi everyone, just received my new 93 and needing a little help with it's break in the barrel method.
FROM READING THE INSTRUCTION'S BELLOW FROM OA;
I'm wondering if I have Winchester CLP, can I use it as a complete method of break-in, or do I "REALLY NEED" seperate item's as cleaner & bore treatment?
Also, what does it mean "NUETRALIZE" in the instruction's??
Fire, Clean, Treat, Lubricate and Fire Method
1) Clean barrel well.
Make sure the patches come out clean and white
Use the cleaner of your choice (do not use ammonia-based cleaner's). Use of a lead or copper solvent is ok.
Make sure you have the barrel cleaned and neutralized in the bore.
Apply the lubricant-bore treatment.
Dry the bore with a clean dry patch.
Use the quality ammunition of your choice and fire ONE round.
2) Repeat Step 1 for the next 24 round's.
3) At round 25, repeat Step 1. Change from firing ONE round to THREE.
4) Repeat Step 3 until you have fired 50 round's total.
5) At round 51, repeat Step 1. Change from firing THREE round's to FIVE.
6) Repeat Step 5 until you have fired 100 round's total.
7) After firing 100 round's total clean and treat the bore as in Step 1, then fire a group.
Your barrel in now broken in.
I hope this help's for everyone! THANK'S |

Hi, Conch, Welcome to OA2! I'm the fellow you spoke with this afternoon at Olympic, when you asked us the same questions-- the information I told you about, detailing barrel break-in procedures, will go out in the mail tomorrow. "Neutralizing" simply means to stop the caustic effects of an ammonia-based cleaning solution, commonly used to remove copper-- since you have a new pistol you don't have any copper or lead built up, so you don't need to worry about it. (The info you quoted looks like it came from Noveske's website.) More info on this can be found in the Weapons Maintenance Forum. Your CLP-BreakFree will do just fine for cleaning and lubrication. _________________ Just because it stopped smoking doesn't mean you can pick it up. --FotBR

No sweat-- all part of the service. It will be Monday before it goes out, though, had to take a sick day today-- a kid and grandkid and me all came down with the same stomach crap. Should be back in the saddle on Monday.
There are some of us who think that since the pistol barrels are so much shorter than the rifle barrels, that since they aren't going to be shooting minute-of-gnat groups at 1600 kilometers, that breakin is not such a big deal on the pistols. The other chain of thought is that they can use all the help they can get. You pays your money and takes your pick. _________________ Just because it stopped smoking doesn't mean you can pick it up. --FotBR
