Ares sold the rights to Bushmaster and closed up shop about the time that Cerberus was gobbling everything up. I think the owner moved to Florida. Probably enjoying early retirement if I were guessing.

Even still, I think it is one of the better designs out there where pistons are concerned, followed by the Adams Arms due to the spring piston return in their designs that doesn't rely on the bolt battering everything back in position, but that's just my personal opinion.

that’s some good info there John, thanks, as I’m looking at a ‘Used’ kit w/ 100 rounds on it; and the kit looks to be a bit nicer than the other one that I installed on the 5.45 UR … it definitely has my interest peaked :D

I looked at them while they were still in business and IIRC they were in the $400-$450 range new.

I assume that Bushmaster will service the Ares models which retail for about $400 too.

Check the link about 3/4 of the way down the page for product details.

yeah, the prices have come down considerably! as I see them listed on the pkfirearms.com for $299 and this ‘Used Kit’ that I’m looking at is going for $210-Shipped so it seems like a pretty fair price, to me.

what do you think?

I think $210 is a very fair price considering what they sold/sell for new provided that everything's kosher with it (I assume it would be). Not much that can really go wrong with it.
